I’m not one for using blogs as a personal journal or as some sort of online group therapy. I tried that but it just didn’t work for me. I couldn’t find my voice and didn’t, out of respect for my family, want to divulge too much personal info. When I did so (about three iterations of blogging ago) it bit me in the ass in a major way. That being said I wanted to start the new year with a sort of confession and mission statement for Movie Marketing Madness: The Blog.
Why I Blog
There are two main reasons I blog here. One is because somewhere in the deepest recesses of my mind I believe that someone from a major website is going to come across MMM and realize they just absolutely have to bring me in-house and pay me a lot of money. That’s closely related to the belief that a movie studio will read this blog and realize I have some good points, am pretty honest and forthright and feel they should hire me (at least part-time) as a consultant on their marketing efforts. If you haven’t guessed already, I’m an enormous egomaniac but am also available for either those gigs.
The second is actually contradictory of that last point (I’m a bundle of issues). I suffer from tremendous self-doubt. I often feel no one is reading this and I should delete the whole shooting match from the web before I embarass myself further. Posting to this blog (and the others I run/write for) is a way for me to consiously make an effort to overcome that and put myself out for the world to see. So while I don’t touch on my personal life much this is very much a form of therapy for me. The extent of my self-doubt is such that most days it’s an effort to get out of the shower, much less come to work and do everything else I do. I’m not sure what the cause is but sometimes my snarkiness/sarcasm is one part my trying to be funny and one part overcompensation for this panicky feeling I have most of the day.
OK, enough touchy-feely crap. I’m making some changes here at MMM. They’re not big but somewhat noticable and I wanted to just say something about them.
I’ve started adding Technorati links to posts. This an effort to both increase traffic and just be a more communally-minded member of the online world. I’ve also started adding some bookmarklets to the RSS feed such as one to email me and one to add the post to del.icio.us. Use them at will.
That’s about it, really. I’m planning on continuing publishing full posts at FilmThreat and posting news here at the blog. Mini MMM pieces will also continue, but I’m thinking of renaming them. Movie Marketing Minis is the name I’m currently going with but that’s not yet been finalized. Feel free to leave your recommendations in the Comments if you want.
