  • More movies are being released in 3-D as studios and exhibitors realize this is something that substantively differentiates moviegoing from home video. Reminds me of the move to widescreen epics following the introduction of television.
  • Retailers are looking to establish a footprint in the movie download market to avoid being marginalized there in the same way they were for music. Digital downloading has eaten significantly into CD sales, causing a drop in the foot traffic at stores.
  • I hope studios weren’t planning on Blu-Ray DVDs being a major revenue stream anytime soon. Titles on either it or the HD-DVD format aren’t exactly putting up huge numbers.
  • Speaking of which, European distributors have put their chips on HD-DVD, in no small part due to delays in bring Blu-Ray discs to that part of the world.
  • The makers of the security protocols for those next-gen DVDs says they’ve fixed the hacked code.
  • Blockbuster will be the exclusive rental outlet for Bobby and the rental version will have exclusive content.
  • Starbucks is going to be an increasingly large factor in movie marketing just like it’s gaining strength in the music world.
