  • Studios are clamoring for the next sustainable property they can launch into production as a number of existing ones – Spider-Man, Ocean’s, X-Men – come to a halt or at least appear to have bowed for the last time.
  • The decision by Nielsen/NetRatings to use “time spent” instead of visits as a metric for publishers and advertisers could have significant impact on studios, since so many of their movie sites are built around Flash or other technologies that don’t have pages, per se.
  • Here’s something for exhibitors and patrons to keep in mind: The price of popcorn has gone up 40 percent in the last year as supplier numbers dwindle and corn is used increasingly for production of ethanol.

  • Disney has begun offering movies for rent through Microsoft’s Xbox 360 Live gaming console. Movies will continue to be released to the platform in either standard or HD formats.
