Just two weeks before the movie’s debut, NBC has had to bring in Val Kilmer to re-record all of the dialogue Will Arnett had previously laid down as the voice of KITT for the Knight Rider TV movie. The reason? Ford produced the car that will be used in the show and is doing extensive marketing for it. And Arnett has been doing voice-overs for GMC Trucks for about a decade.

I want to know how that conversation went down. In my mind it worked something like this:

Exec 1: Arnett can’t do it. GM realized it would be a problem and asked him to drop out. Who can we get on such short notice?

Exec 2: Well I saw Val Kilmer loitering around a Pinkberry this morning. He’s probably still there. Want me to ask him?

Exec 1: Yeah I guess that would be alright.

The best part about this is that we could now see the following scene at some point if this turns into a movie:

Whoever this little shit is that’s now driving the car: KITT, what is this we’re driving on?

KITT: This is ice. This is what happens to water when it gets cold.

Or is that too much to ask?

  1. i can honestly say that 2 years ago i needed to hire a voice over person for a major wireless carrier and something similar happened.

however, the client never caught on.

i picked three voice over actors knowing one of them had been the radio and television voice for verizon wireless and presented the samples to the client.

who do you think they picked? they’re competitors guy.
