I originally had a much longer post on this topic, but decided there was no margin in publishing it.

Without naming names, there are some very well-known people in the marketing world who have amassed huge followings and lots of success by telling people exactly what they want to hear and passing it off as insightful wisdom that gets to “the heart of the matter” or some such. These people, though, foul the stream for everyone else who has to explain hard truths to clients and executives. All those authors out there who are espousing ideas on how to stand out from the crowd, love your customers and other such crap are really just hurting the industry by serving the felt needs of itching ears.
